Origins
Eduard van Brunschot, a Dutch textile engineer and lifelong horseman, founded Perol Chico Ranch in 1996. Drawn to the high Andes and the noble spirit of the Peruvian Paso horse, he envisioned a way of travel defined by respect — for the land, the animal, and the culture that sustains them both.
Guided by the belief that experiences hold greater value than possessions, and that modern life must remain connected to nature, he created journeys that bring people back to what is real and essential.
A pioneer of equestrian tourism in Peru, Perol Chico has grown from a personal calling into a name recognised for its professionalism, exceptional horses, and carefully designed riding journeys. Honoured by National Geographic among the Top 10 Horseback Rides in the World, it reflects a legacy built with experience, continuity, and care.
Today
Since 2023, Perol Chico operates in close collaboration with Claudio Cavallero, a renowned Peruvian Paso breeder from Arequipa, where the Cavallero family has been prestigious horse breeders for many generations. The partnership strengthens the long-established operation through shared logistics, local expertise, and the continued refinement of Perol Chico’s trail horse selection, with horses carefully prepared by professional staff for long-distance riding. Claudio is joined by his daughter Francisca and his sisters, Lucia and Silvana, who support the operation across logistics, administration, and guiding.
A Personal Approach
Perol Chico is a founder-led operation with its own travel company in the Netherlands and on-the-ground operations in Peru since 1996. Every journey is designed and overseen by the same team responsible for the horses, the routes, and the overall experience.
This long-standing structure ensures reliability, clarity, and a high level of personal involvement — from first contact to the final ride.

Upcoming changes to our Sacred Valley ranch
We’d like to share an important update: beginning in June 2025, our Sacred Valley ranch will undergo a major transformation. As part of this process, we’ll be relocating our riding operation to a nearby hacienda in the Sacred Valley.
During construction, all rides will temporarily start and end at this new location. While the backdrop may shift, the quality of our horseback riding experience remains as exceptional as ever.
