Nestled against a majestic mountain backdrop, Perol Chico’s riding operation is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, between Cusco and Machu Picchu. This part of the Peruvian Andes offers some of the most spectacular scenery and vistas in the world, with endless miles of riding trails on ancient Inca roads.
Eduard van Brunschot (better known as Eddy) is the founder of Perol Chico and is of Dutch and Peruvian descent. In 1996 he bought some farming land (named Perol Chico) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and began to construct his homestead from scratch. He also bought a couple of Peruvian horses for his own enjoyment. While exploring the wonderful trails high in the surrounding mountains, Eddy soon discovered that the Peruvian Paso horse was the ultimate riding horse: unrivalled in terms of endurance and comfort. He also realised that there was no established or professional horse-riding operation offered at the time, so without much thought, he founded a company for this purpose and became the pioneer of equestrian tourism in Peru.
Maria Zans Gamarra joined the company in 2004 and is now managing the operational part of the Perol Chico ranch. Maria is the founder and managing director of Maria Zans Gia e.i.r.l., a Peruvian based travel company and tour operator. Maria was born and raised in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and has the natural gift to make every guest feel at home and part of the family.
